And it'll be free for many of you

  • by Sammy Barker

Two of the greatest games of all time have been re-released on PS5 and PS4 – alongside a brand-new, original campaign created by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames. Available right now, DOOM + DOOM 2 is free to download if you’ve ever purchased DOOM or DOOM 2 individually on PS4 before. For everyone else, it’ll cost just $9.99/£8.49.

The list of content is nearly limitless, so here’s a rundown of everything:

  • DOOM
  • DOOM 2
  • TNT: Evilution
  • The Plutonia Experiment
  • Master Levels for DOOM 2
  • No Rest for the Living
  • Sigil
  • Legacy of Rust (Brand New)

The package also includes a Deathmatch map pack featuring 26 all-new arenas, taking the overall total amount of content up to 187 mission maps and 43 multiplayer maps. That’s all in addition to a ton of quality of life improvements, including full crossplay for both competitive multiplayer and co-op, as well as mod support.

The original soundtracks are included, but you can choose to use a remastered soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult, and gameplay will run in 4K at up to 120fps on PS5 specifically. That’s all in addition to other existing upgrades, like the weapon carousel and quick saving which was introduced in previous versions. Basically, this is the ultimate version of DOOM and DOOM 2.

Will you be revisiting these all-time classics? Bring the big guns in the comments section below.

Only got into Doom with 2016 and Eternal so am tempted by this tbh. If they have plats… 🤔 I’m in 😁

Wow that’s cool! Bought Doom 1 ages ago and nice getting Doom 2 for free with all this juicy content 👍🏻

I’d kill for a Quake Arena remake

I'd just play the copy I already have, but I can't find the floppy drive.

I voted og Doom and I would love to play, finally, a remaster of the ps1 version, my favorite one. Today it's kinda rough.

Original Doom for me!
I remember being 10 years old, going from playing games like Paperboy, Outrun and Roadrunner on my dad's Amstrad CPC, to playing Doom on my friends PC. The game made everything else look tame!

I bought my first PC to play Doom. £1600 for a 486-33SX in 1995(?), it set me down the path to PC building. Still so good! I love 2016, but OG Doom will probably always be my favourite ever game.

@NEStalgia I’m more puzzled by what happened to my discs. Someone has saved their SimCity 2000 saves over disc two!

Oh wow, no love for Doom 3 in the votes? The horror vibe in that game is amazing.

@DrVenture69 £1600 in 1995? Was it either that or buying your house? 😆

@Kanji-Tatsumi I think it was worth about four times more than my car 😂. Love the Karl Pilkington avatar, I can still hear Rick Gervase saying “Oh Korrrl!” On XFM, the tv show was funny too

@Skeletor85 Doom 3 is one of the scariest horror games I've played. So many jump scares!

@NEStalgia Games on floppies were something else, I remember getting Gabriel Knight and I think that was 16 discs to install

I just like that my copy of Ultimate Doom on Steam updated to Doom 1 & 2.

I do need to see if the original DOS version of Doom II is included as I only had access to the original version of Ultimate Doom - especially since I can't just buy Doom 2 on Steam now with this being combined.

Why does this matter?!

To use the original WADs for other Source Ports!

Original DOOM soundtrack on PS1 was one of the best game soundtracks ever, even to this day.

@Ilyn forget the games. I have Windows NT and Photoshop...4 was it? Floppies. Something like 50 disks. The box of floppies is the size of a PS5 box!😂

I misread the headline as "Iconic 90FPS DOOM"

That said, I'd love to play DOOM at 90 FPS just to see how it looked

DOOM (2016) is the best one for me. Closely followed by DOOM 3.

Hopefully the upcoming The Dark Ages is more like 2016 than Eternal.

Hats off to the devs, especially since I have no money for M$.
